The new trend of replacing cigarettes with electronic cigarettes has caught on globally with current and new smokers as a “healthy” alternative. But do you know the impact that this fashion statement has on your body?
Although vaping may expose the user to fewer toxins than smoke from traditional cigarettes, the vapor still contains nicotine, metals, and contaminants. Inhalation of these substances may affect your heart, your brain, and other parts of your body.

1.    Not all e-cigs are the same
Factors like how old your device is and how you’re using it can affect how many of those cancer-causing chemicals you are breathing in. Scientists found that the older the device, the more toxic the emissions are. 

2.    The first and last puff create different emissions
Emissions increased up to 10 times with each consecutive puff because as the chemicals break down whilst using an e-cigarette, they leave a residue behind. This builds up over time, causing more toxic emissions to be released making the last few puffs the most dangerous.

3.    Fun flavors not so fun effects
The flavors that were found to be the most toxic to the heart include original tobacco, sweet tobacco with caramel and vanilla, fruit, butterscotch, strawberry, cinnamon, and menthol. Cinnamon and menthol flavored pods are additionally harmful because they interfered with cells’ ability to form new blood vessels. These changes are associated with heart disease and may lead to future serious health problems.

4.    High voltage = high toxicity
All e-cigarettes are battery operated and adjusting it to the highest setting, allows more liquid flow, warmth creation but also pumps more toxicity out.

5.    No good way to stop smoking
Despite the marketing claims, e-cigarettes do not help users to stop smoking regular cigarettes. Adult smokers who use e-cigs are actually 28 percent less likely to ax their nicotine habit.

6.    Nicotine “free” version can cause cancer
Findings of a 2015 study published in the journal Oral Oncology looked at cancer-causing cell damage from nicotine versions of e-cigs as well as the supposedly ‘nicotine-free’ versions and found that even a less concentrated exposure to nicotine in the vapor is enough to cause cell damage.

Additionally, users of vape pens and e-cigarettes have a 40 percent higher chance of developing heart disease than a non-smoker. They also have an increased risk of heart attack, angina, and stroke.

Use of vape pens and e-cigarettes may cause many cardiovascular side effects and symptoms for users. These symptoms may include:
•    Atherosclerosis, or the thickening and hardening of arteries
•    Increased blood clotting
•    Enlargement of the aorta
•    Changes in heart rate
•    Increased blood pressure
•    Increased risk of stroke
